Sidney Lanier High School Alumni

Homer Garcia's claim to fame was as an organizer and debater, who brought honors to Lanier and was instrumental in bringing the academic curriculum into the 20th century (at least temporarily). A lot of kids benefited from it. I am grateful to his unselfish efforts to place the needs of the school before himself.

Ignacio was a member of the debate team at Lanier, but he distinguished himself in the area of academic writing. He has authored three books, two with University of Arizona Press, and one with Texas A & M University Press. His latest work is on the life of Gus Garcia and the fight for equal representation in jury selections. He was recently on PBS in 2009 and the film on his book has been shown across campuses in United States.
